Cordier Auctions to Sell Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission Artifacts at Public Auction February 15

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) is inviting the public to an auction of items removed from its collection. The auction will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 and is being conducted by Cordier Auctions & Appraisals, 1500 Paxton Street, Harrisburg under contract with the Commonwealth's Department of General Services. The preview will be held Friday, February 14 from 2-6 p.m.

The auction will feature a variety of items from across the commonwealth including books, furnishings, agriculture tools and equipment, prints, engravings, and an assortment of 19th and 20th century household and merchandising objects. Featured lots will include a Conestoga Wagon from the Landis Valley Museum, Lancaster; an English Slant Top Desk circa 1750-1780 from the State Museum of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg; a Hand Drawn Fire Fighting Water Tank/Chemical Cart circa 1900-1925 from the Somerset Historical Center, Somerset; Eight Metal Oil Creek Petroleum Motor Oils Signs from the Drake Well Museum, Titusville; and a Corner Cupboard circa 1870-1880 from the Daniel Boone Homestead, Birdsboro. The items were formerly held at the Anthracite Heritage Museum, Brandywine Battlefield, Bushy Run Battlefield, Conrad Weiser Homestead, Daniel Boone Homestead, Drake Well Museum, Ephrata Cloister, Eckley Miners' Village, Fort Pitt Museum, Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum, Pennsbury Manor, Joseph Priestley House, Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, Somerset Historical Center, and the State Museum of Pennsylvania. The pieces being sold have no special significance to the history of the Commonwealth or duplicate what is already in the state’s collection. Prior to being consigned for sale, the objects were offered to other PHMC properties as well as other historic museums state and nationwide. Money raised from the auction can only be used to buy or conserve artifacts that enhance the PHMC's mission of preserving the Commonwealth's natural and cultural heritage as steward, teacher and advocate for the people of Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania Auctioneers Association Awards “Best in Show” to Cordier Auctions & Appraisals at Annual Pennsylvania Auctioneers Associationn Advertising Contest

Cordier Auctions and Appraisals was awarded “Best in Show” for their brochure and was awarded first place in the photography category for their entry at the 2014 Pennsylvania Auctioneers Association (PAA) Conference held January 8-10 at the Sheraton Harrisburg-Hershey. The annual contest is judged by independent marketing professionals and accepts entries in twenty advertising and promotional categories. Cordier’s entry in the Auction Firm Promotional category, which was awarded Best in Show, was a collaboration of Cordier’s staff, Joanne Cassaro Design, and Vince Cassaro Photography.

The entry in the Photography category was taken by Vince Cossaro of Vince Cassaro Photography at an auction at a Mechanicsburg, PA location last summer. The PAA is the only professional trade organization for auctioneers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
